Located adjacent to Takapuna Art Supplies, an 80 square metre dedicated studio space, filled with easels, drawing horses, appropriate lighting and props.
Studio address: 20 Northcroft Street, Takapuna (entrance at the rear of building).
Our goals are to offer aspiring artists and professionals the opportunity to develop and expand their understanding of drawing and painting, and to instruct in the practical application of these skills.
Beginning or advanced, novice or professional, individuals at all levels of experience participate in study and learning alongside one another. Our instructors include prominent artists who are active in their fields.
Friday Night Drink & Draw (untutored)
Final 2014 meet-up for this group will be the 28th of November. We will look to start up again in mid January 2015
The Friday Night Drink & Draw is more of a 'traditional' Life Drawing format, consisting of shorter poses that run 5 minutes to 30 minutes. Artists are welcome to bring their favorite beverage and loosen up in a casual, music-filled atmosphere. Models will be nude.
Easels, Drawing Boards and Drawing Horses available. Seating is on a first come basis. $15 (cash, as our eftpos closes at 5pm) per session. Bookings not essential.
SATURDAY FIGURE DRAWING & PAINTING GROUP (untutored)
Final 2014 meet-up for this group will be the 29th of November. We will look to start up again in mid January 2015
Saturdays 2 p.m. - 6 p.m.
Figure drawing and painting workshops in which artists may choose the style and method of rendering the model. Intended as a setting in which to gain additional experience in drawing or painting, or as a chance to experiment with styles and techniques. For artists at all levels of experience of development. This workshop is untutored, but there will be help if required.
Poses will be 4 hours so that artists can complete an Alla Prima painting or, move around the studio for shorter studies.
Easels and Drawing Horses available. Seating is on a first come basis. Odourless mediums and solvents, only. $20 a session including light refreshments. Bookings not essential.

Expand your visual awareness.
With an emphasis on drawing, learn to look at things for accuracy and understanding. Examine the fundamentals of drawing and of composition with analysis of light and shadow, value, colour and edges. Drawing and painting from a live model, learn about the materials and techniques of oil painting with a certain simplification and design of large masses, described in value and colour. Develop proper proportion and structure of heads and figures; understanding of light and its application. Study colour and value with the use of restricted palettes and the development of the figure in composition. You will be completing a single painting over the three day period of a nude or semi nude model with props.
At least one demo will be given.
This short course is suitable for artists with some experience drawing the figure.

About Jim Auckland
Jim Auckland has been an illustrator and fine artist since 1973 when he graduated from the prestigious Art Center College of Design. Jim has received extensive recognition for work he has created in the sports and entertainment fields. Clients in the entertainment industry include: Warner Brothers, Walt Disney Studios, Columbia Pictures and Rhythm and Hues.
He has created portrait collections of famous athletes for NFL Properties, The Upper Deck Company, The Franklin Mint, The Bradford Exchange and the NBA. His paintings are included in the collections of The Buffalo Bills, The National Football League, Hughes Aircraft Company, General Mills, The United States Air Force and The Library of Congress.
