Papers: Japanese
Japan has been producing papers for just under 1500 years. This long tradition of papermaking uses the long, inner fibre of the Mulberry tree. Fibres from the Kozo, Mitusmata and Gampi and the addition of Neri to the pulp give Japanese Papers their extremely light and translucent properties. They have exceptional purity and are delicate, soft with an inherent beauty. They are receptive to ink and the soft brush of the calligrapher and are excellent for printmaking. Because of their strength and purity, they are extensively used for restoration.

Kinwashi is made from manila hemp fibres. It is a buff coloured, translucent sheet with long manila hemp fibres running throughout the sheet, giving the paper great strength. It can be used for a variety of purposes including collage, lamp shade manufacture, and as covers for books, folios and albums. It is easily tinted with water-based and spirit based mediums.
