Caran d'Ache

Caran d’Ache has a special link to the worlds of design, painting and writing: its name is a reference to the most important tool in drawing.   From its earliest days in 1915 and the official opening of the company in 1924 by Arnold Schweitzer, Caran d’Ache’s development has reflected its passion for the most beautiful materials.
  • Caran d'Ache Pastel Pencils$10.80$8.60

Caran d'Ache Pastel Pencils are made from pure raw materials to create a pastel pencil paste that is fed by hand into round moulding dies, oven-dried in special baskets, carefully glued between two strips of the finest California cedar, and cut into lengths to produce several pencils. Four coats of clear varnish are applied, and great care is taken to exactly match the color cap to the shade of the pastel. As a final step, the pencils are sharpened in a double-cone process, a particularly delicate operation for such a fragile product.

Caran d'Ache Pastel Pencils are also exceptionally lightfast.

  • Caran d'Ache Supracolor Soft Aquarelle$5.60
Supracolor Soft Aquarelle pencils offer a huge range of water-soluble colour leads in 120 finely nuanced shades. Designed for every creative profession, the Supracolor Soft range offers a wide variety of applications thanks to intensely luminous colours and excellent covering power.

While designed for large, broad works, the soft, large-diameter 3.8 mm leads are nevertheless extremely robust and display exemplary lightfastness, while their colour opacity and pigment quality ensures long-lasting use. Pencil drawings can thus be faded out, blended with fingertips, textured by rubbing the lead on a piece of sandpaper or used as watercolours.

The body of the pencils is completely varnished and sheathed in a glossy colour corresponding to the colour of the lead.

Supracolor Soft pencils are designed and manufactured in the Geneva workshops of Caran d’Ache according to the quality standards of the Swiss Made label and in line with eco-friendly standards and certifications.

  • Caran d'Ache Prismalo Aquarelle$4.90
The first colour pencil with a water-soluble lead ever designed, Prismalo revolutionised the art of drawing and illustration from the moment it was invented in 1931 in the Caran d’Ache workshops. This marked the start of a long and successful story of colour, in which a straight line could now be freely transformed into a watercolour, breathing endless life into drawing.

Prismalo colour pencils are appreciated internationally due to the quality of their leads, which are highly resistant and fine, as well as to the high pigment density of the 80 luminous hues composing the range. For decades, these exceptional colour pencils have been shining ambassadors for the Geneva-based Maison’s indomitable spirit of innovation as well as its expertise. They have achieved truly iconic status and magnified both the name of Caran d’Ache and the Swiss Made quality label.

Captivated by these many virtues, designers, illustrators and budding artists can indulge themselves to their heart’s content in producing drawings bursting with colour. This unbridled creativity gives rise to lines enhanced with watercolours, wet drawing, pointillism, hatching, gradation, overlaying techniques or metallic effects.

The colour pencils are completely coated in a glossy varnish matching the shade of the lead and are easily recognisable by their white caps. Entirely designed and manufactured in the Caran d’Ache workshops, according to the highest quality standards and in compliance with environmental norms and certifications, Prismalo pencils are a creative heritage in themselves. They have awakened the colourful memory of generations of artists.
